Incident during the assault at Maastricht by Sebastien Vranx. The battle
of Maastricht the Spanish general Alexandro Farnese, Duke of Parma,
attacked the city of Maastricht held by Dutch rebels on March 12th 1579.
The Dutch held Maastricht with 2,000 soldiers and armed townspeople
against a Spanish force of 20,000. Alexandro Farnese took the city but
with the loss of 4,000 men, as a reprisal the Spanish slaughtered 8,000
